What are cellular blinds?
Cellular blinds are sometimes called honeycomb blinds, due to their structure. In some ways they are similar to conventional pleated blinds, but the honeycomb construction helps to improve the thermal insulation of the fabric.
As a result, honeycomb blinds can keep rooms cooler during hot summer days and warmer during winter cold snaps, while reducing central heating and air conditioning bills at the same time.
This makes cellular blinds a particularly good option for picture windows that typically lose a lot of heat, as well as for conservatory blinds and south-facing windows that get very hot during the summer months.
What are cellular blinds used for
Cellular blinds make excellent window shades, partly due to their thermal properties mentioned above.
Their three-dimensional structure also makes them highly effective blackout blinds, ideal if you are sensitive to light or prefer to have a dark space available to you at all times of day.

What are cellular blinds made from?

Are cellular blinds and pleated blinds the same thing?
No, although they have some similar properties, and we group them together on our website and in our brochure.
The main difference is:
• Pleated blinds use a concertina fabric folded back and forth in a zigzag pattern.
• Cellular honeycomb blinds use a more complex pleat that creates thermal pockets.
These pockets are what gives honeycomb blinds their thermal performance, similar to the spaces between double glazing or the walls of a vacuum flask.
In operation, both function in a similar way: when retracted, the folds in the fabric collapse down tightly into a small space at the top of the window, and when extended the fabric opens out to cover the window completely.
